Pregnancy & Birth

Obstetrics

Care from pre-conception through to pregnancy, birth and postnatal follow-up, including antenatal care and birthing care at North West Private Hospital.

  • Antenatal care involves regular appointments throughout pregnancy to monitor the health and wellbeing of both mother and baby. Dr Namiko provides ongoing care, advice and support through each stage of pregnancy.

  • Dr Namiko provides birthing care at North West Private Hospital. She works with patients to support safe, informed and individualised care during labour and birth.

  • Postnatal follow-up provides an opportunity to review recovery after birth, discuss any concerns, and support ongoing physical and emotional wellbeing after pregnancy.

  • Preconception care supports patients who are planning a pregnancy or considering their fertility and pregnancy health. This may include reviewing medical history, medications, previous pregnancies, lifestyle factors and any conditions that may affect pregnancy.

Please Note

Babies can arrive at any time, day or night. To provide safe and consistent care, Dr Namiko remains on call for her patients throughout her working week. On days when she is not working, Dr Terry Sheahan may attend to your delivery.

For patient safety, it is also important that Dr Namiko has appropriate downtime. On weekends and public holidays, Dr Namiko participates in a shared on-call roster with a trusted group of well-respected Obstetricians and Gynaecologists who also practise at North West Private Hospital.

This roster includes Dr Terry Sheahan, Dr Jamie Friebe, Dr Min Kho, Dr Eva Kretowicz and Dr Nam Bajra.

Gynaecology

Management of common gynaecological concerns, including menstrual issues, pelvic pain, endometriosis, contraception, menopause, incontinence and prolapse.

  • Vulvovaginal conditions

    Dr Namiko manages a range of vulval and vaginal concerns, including discomfort, irritation, pain, infections and other changes that may affect daily life or sexual health.

    Contraception

    Contraceptive care includes discussion of options such as oral contraceptives, long-acting reversible contraception and other methods, with advice tailored to each patient’s health, lifestyle and preferences.

    Menstrual disorders

    Menstrual concerns can include heavy bleeding, irregular periods, painful periods or bleeding between periods. Dr Namiko can help investigate symptoms and discuss treatment options.

    Colposcopy

    Colposcopy is a closer examination of the cervix, often recommended after an abnormal cervical screening result. It helps guide further assessment and management where needed.

    Pelvic pain

    Pelvic pain can have many causes and may affect quality of life. Dr Namiko provides assessment and management to help identify possible causes and develop an appropriate care plan.

    Endometriosis

    Endometriosis can cause pelvic pain, painful periods, pain with intercourse and fertility concerns. Care may include investigation, medical management and, where appropriate, surgical treatment.

    Ovarian cysts

    Ovarian cysts are common and may require monitoring or treatment depending on their size, appearance and symptoms. Dr Namiko provides assessment and advice on appropriate management.

    Paediatric and adolescent gynaecology

    Care for children and adolescents may involve concerns such as periods, pain, vulvovaginal symptoms, hormonal issues or developmental questions. Dr Namiko provides sensitive and age-appropriate care.

    Perimenopause and menopause

    Perimenopause and menopause can bring symptoms such as hot flushes, sleep disturbance, mood changes, vaginal dryness and changes to bleeding patterns. Dr Namiko can discuss management options based on each patient’s needs.

    Incontinence

    Urinary incontinence can affect confidence and quality of life. Assessment can help identify contributing factors and guide treatment options.

    Prolapse

    Prolapse occurs when pelvic organs move downward due to changes in pelvic support. Management may include lifestyle strategies, pelvic floor support, pessaries or surgery, depending on symptoms and preferences.

  • Hysteroscopy

    Hysteroscopy is a procedure used to look inside the uterus. It may be used to investigate abnormal bleeding, polyps, fibroids or other concerns affecting the uterine cavity.

    Laparoscopy

    Laparoscopy is keyhole surgery that allows assessment and treatment of conditions such as endometriosis, ovarian cysts, pelvic pain and other gynaecological concerns.

    Open surgery

    Some conditions may require open surgery, depending on complexity, safety and the most appropriate treatment approach.

    Vaginal surgery

    Vaginal surgery may be used to treat certain conditions, including prolapse or other pelvic floor concerns.

    General gynaecological surgery

    Dr Namiko provides a broad range of general gynaecological surgical care, with treatment options discussed carefully according to each patient’s condition, goals and preferences.

Supporting Your Fertility Journey

Fertility

Fertility care for male and female infertility, including ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination, IVF and fertility preservation.

  • Ovulation induction uses medication to support or stimulate ovulation. It may be suitable for some patients who have irregular ovulation or difficulty conceiving.

  • Intrauterine insemination, or IUI, involves placing prepared sperm directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation. It may be recommended in selected fertility situations.

  • IVF is a fertility treatment where eggs are collected and fertilised with sperm in a laboratory before an embryo is transferred to the uterus. Dr Namiko can support patients through assessment, planning and treatment.

  • Fertility preservation may be considered by patients who wish to preserve eggs, sperm or embryos for future use. This may be relevant for personal, medical or treatment-related reasons.

  • Fertility care may involve assessment of both female and male factors that can affect conception. Dr Namiko provides investigation, advice and treatment planning based on each patient or couple’s circumstances.
